The FDA has approved the nonprescription use of sildenafil citrate to treat male erectile dysfunction, or ED, for men over the age of 18.

Pfizer Inc. has confirmed that it is recalling the generic version of its erectile dysfunction drug Viagra for use in the UK, after being found to contain a dangerous ingredient that can cause a serious, potentially fatal reaction if not used correctly. The product was found to contain a undeclared ingredient called sildenafil, which is not approved for use in the UK.

The Health and Wellbeing Authority (HWA) on Thursday said it has fined Pfizer over the sale of erectile dysfunction drug Viagra in Ireland. In a decision which is expected to be announced by the HWA, the authority has seized €1.2 million and €1.5 million in damages for the breach.
The authority is also investigating the sale of the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra in the Republic of Ireland, the HWA has received reports of serious and persistent cases of ‘buzzing’ between the online market of the Irish drug firm and other health-care facilities. The authority is seeking an order to seize the erectile dysfunction drug in the Republic of Ireland from registered pharmacies and the possession of the drugs by health-care facilities.
The HWA’s investigation is part of the investigation into the sale of the erectile dysfunction drug in Ireland. HWA will also look at the case of the online drug firm and other health-care facilities.
“We believe it was appropriate for the HWA to seize the erectile dysfunction drug in the Republic of Ireland,” said HWA Secretary General O’Brien MacApin.
The HWA will inform the public of the investigation to be carried out by the HWA’s officers on a regular basis. HWA will also carry out its own investigation and will make a decision on the case of the online drug firm.
